EVERYTHING IS AWESOME....EVERYTHING IS COOL WHEN YOU'RE PART OF A TEAM.... Now that I've got the Lego song stuck in your head, let's begin... Sometimes, everything is awesome, sometimes every day is full of... Adventure Travel New experiences New lessons Fun
And when it is, you're overwhelmed by hope, joy, excitement, maybe fear, but the the good kind.
I've had my fair share of those times - going to South Africa, moving to New Zealand, starting a Masters studying something I love, getting a book published. I will always be thankful for those things and hope for more of the enrichment that they bring.
But what about the in between times? The day to day... The times when it feels like all you can do is put one foot in front of the other... The not-amazing-but-not-terrible days... The days after the honeymoon?

After I left school, I went to South Africa four times in the following years. It was my happy place. So much so that I'd just about made up my mind that I would move there after university. When I was in South Africa, every day was action-packed, full of fun times with great people, new experiences, beautiful surroundings and I think I assumed that's what it would be like if I moved there. Looking back, I'm pretty relieved that it didn't work out because I'd never been in South Africa long enough to get over the honeymoon period - that period of fresh, exciting newness that eventually turns into a normal, every day pattern.
Maybe that's why some people struggle to settle anywhere - as soon as things get little too routine, they get bored and back up and move on. That pretty well describes my twenties. And I'm not saying that it's bad to travel or it's bad to seek adventure to change, because it's not...at all. I think it's only a problem when seeking that constant stimulation stops you from seeing the good that is in every day. It's far too easy to do, but it's such a tragedy.
Every day may not be filled with beaches and new people and sky dives and mountains and thousand-year-old buildings and the best steak you've ever had, but when you open your eyes each day and look at the things that you've become so used to, I reckon it's even better.
I got up this morning and the was a fresh pot of great coffee waiting for me. I had a good, long-overdue chat with one of my best friends on the other side of the world. I walked into uni, past the stunning cathedral under bright blue skies - on of those crisp winter mornings that the north east does so well. I picked up a library book called "Millions Saved" and I don't even care if you call me a geek, but I'm really looking forward to reading it. Since getting home, I've just been reading and writing all afternoon. A standard day, but full of so many good things, things to be thankful for.
Now, I'll stop this post before I turn into Pollyanna, but there you have it - 2015: the year of seeing the good and great in every single day...
